Robin Smith was a Delivery Driver by trade, he was born on the 17th February 1942, he was the son of Albert and Clara Smith (nee Mottram). Sadly, just weeks before he was born, his father Albert died. Together with his Mom and his older sister Fay, he lived in Peplow Road, Glebe farm, Birmingham, life wasn’t easy but with the help of their extended family they got by.
His Mother Clara married for a second time, her 2nd husband was ‘Walter Badham’ and together they were blessed with a daughter ‘Lynne’.
Robin went to Lea Village School, he was no great scholar but he was a keen sportsman, sport was a passion that stayed with him all of his life.
On leaving school in 1957 Robin gained employment as a Van Drivers Assistant for ‘McVites & Price’ at their Stechford branch. Eventually he went on to become a Lorry Driver, delivering goods for ’Proctor & Gamble’ at their Bromford Bridge depot.On November 14th 1965 Robin married his fiancé ‘Georgina Cutts’, three years later they had moved into a property in Alum Rock.Robin & Georgina were still living in Alum Rock when Robin passed away in 2007 aged 65.
Georgina describes Robin as a kind, tolerant man who loved nature and had a great sense of humour.
