Len and Amy Mobley were my aunt and uncle; they lived at Musgrove Road, Winson Green for many years.
I was born next door at my other aunts, aunt May.
Uncle Len had two daughters Ivy and Joan; he also adopted my sister Iris when Mom and Dad split up.
Uncle Len was a driver for ‘Ex Army Transport’ in Butlin Street, Nechells and later at British Road Services in Cheapside until he was 70 years old.
He retired but could not settle down so he returned to British Road Services as a HandyMan.
Sadly, Len had old-fashioned Ideas when it came to car buying and he would not touch a car unless it had a starting handle.
He would say “save the battery turn the engine over a couple of times and then start with the key”.
Sadly he turned over his last engine and had a Stroke, he was 79 years old.
