Roy was born to parents: Harold and Mildred Elizabeth (Millie) Kedwards (nee Jay) at 15 Wake Green Road on 14th May 1945. He was one of four children, the others being: Ray, Susan and Valerie. Roys Father Harold was a ‘Moulding Box Maker’.
At that time the family were living at 6 back 50 Leopold Street, Balsall Heath in a back-to-back house in the then Urban District of Kings Norton. Roy left school at 15 and started work at ‘Swinglers’ factory in Balsall Heath, he was destined to be a ‘Cabinet maker’.
At other firms that he worked for: ‘Spaceline’ and ‘Springfield’s’ now Grangemoor Furniture (where he eventually retired from at the age of 65), he always retained his ‘Cabinet Maker’ status and even made furniture for his own home, friends and neighbours as well.
He was so well liked by the Springfield’s owner ‘Ray Bill’ that Ray left him £500 in his will.
Roy met his wife to be ‘Jenny Wood’ when he was 20 years old, Jenny was his blind date and they met at the Yew Tree Public House in 1966
They married at St Cyprians Church, Hay Mills in 1967.
Roy and Jenny were blessed with two children, John Jason was born in 1972 and Jeanette Ann in 1974, both were born at Marston Green Maternity Hospital.
Sadly in April 2012, Roy was found to be suffering from Cancer and passed away on May 10th 2012, peacefully at Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry.
Roy’s Funeral was held at Yardley Crematorium on Friday 25th May 2012 at 1.30pm.
