Florence Annie Haynes was born in All Saints Hospital, Birmingham on the 13th April 1904.
She grew up living with her parents at 8/60 Holborn Hill, Nechells where she helped her mother raise her 3 brothers Albert, Tommy, Arthur and her sister Penelope (Pem).
When she was grown up she met George Smith and they were married at St. Clements Church in Nechells on the 5th of March 1928.
Florence and George started their married life living with her Mom at 8/60 Holborn Hill. Later on they took the house on for themselves and it was here that they raised their sons Wilfred, Arthur, Albert and daughters Pauline and Irene.
For most of her married life, Florence worked as a cleaner at the B.I.F., Castle Bromwich and Hercules and Foseco (Foundry Services) in Long Acre, Nechells. It was whilst she was working at Foseco that she finally retired from work.
With the re-development of the inner city taking place the house in Holborn Hill was knocked down in the late 1970’s and Florence and George were re-housed in Hermitage Road, Erdington.
In 1903 at the age of 89 years, Florence sadly passed away in the North Croft Hospital, Erdington.
