Edna Mosely was the only child of Leah (nee Baugh) & James (George) Mosely. She was born on May 2nd 1913 in Nechells. When Edna was 18 months old the family moved to Kimberly Avenue, Alum Rock. Edna went to Highfield Road School.
By the time Edna was 12, her dad had established himself as a foreman plumber working in the family business so was able to buy one of the houses he was working on in Alum Rock Road for the sum of £350.
On leaving school Edna went to work at Marriot’s a drapers shop in Alum Rock Road, then later she became a window dresser and first sales Assistant at Alan’s on the Coventry Road. Edna in the 1930’s
It was whilst working there that she met her future husband Reg Cutts. They were married at St. Margaret’s Church in Washwood Heath on October 8th 1939.
They soon found a house to rent in Rockville Road, Alum Rock; this is where their two daughters Alma & Georgina were born.
Edna enjoyed motherhood she was an inventive Cook and could make a good meal out of next to nothing. Her skills at sewing, knitting and crochet always ensured the girls were well dressed.
In 1959 on the death of her Father she moved her family back into the house of her teenage years so she was able to look after her Mother. This was still Edna’s home when she sadly died in 2004 but the memories, values and love she left behind will always remain with her Family.
