My Mom and Dad were: Charlie Moorcroft of Curzon Street, Duddeston and Alice Moorcroft (Nee Watts).
Dad was a Soldier during the First World War, his Regiment was the Royal Horse Artillery, and he was the leading gun carriage driver.
Dad was wounded in his left arm by shrapnel during an artillery barrage.
Mom and Dad married in 1918, they had three children: Alice, Leslie and Elsie. Dad was born in Curzon Street, Duddeston, but after they married, they moved to Francis Street in Vauxhall. Later, they moved to Great Brook Street in Ashted. Dad got a job as a horse driver at Dumalows in Curzon Street, later with his brother-in-law Albert Watts; he got a job at a wire drawing company somewhere near the Dudley Road. While living in Great Brook Street, Ashted, their Son Leslie married Vi Winters.
Elsie married, ‘Len Cotton’ from the Boys home in Vauxhall.
Sadly, after only 5 years of marriage, Elsie died during childbirth.
After two years, Len and I decided to get married;
Len and I are still together; we are now in our eighties but still going strong.
