Clara Emma Mottram (Cis) was born in 1912 in Barrack Street, Duddeston, the eldest daughter of Elizabeth and Albert Mottram, she was educated at a local school, probably Lupin Street.
In 1935 she married Albert Smith at the All Saints Church, Stechford and in 1937 their first child, Fay, was born, followed by a son, Robin, in 1942. Sadly, Albert died shortly before Robin was born.
Whilst working at Hedley’s in Kitts Green, Cis met Walter Badham. Walter (Wal) was born in Prescott Street, Hockley, the youngest son of William and Alice. He went to school at Ellen Street, later, he moved to Winstanley Road.
Throughout the war, he worked as a stoker for The Great Western Railways. Cis & Wal married in 1949 and Walter moved into the family home in Peplow Road. To complete their happiness, their daughter Lynne was born in 1955.
After they were married, he gained employment at Fort Dunlop where he worked for many years.
Wal was forced to take early retirement from the Dunlop so that he could care for Cis, sadly, Cis passed away in 1986.
In his later years, Wal enjoyed Dancing, Bowling and Travel. He remained in the family home in Peplow Road until his death in 2004.
