Leslie Moorcroft was born in Birmingham in 1924, he married Violet Winters and they were blessed with two Sons, Alan & Chris. They lived for a while in Gt Brook Street, Sheldon and Alfred Street, Sparkhill, proud to say “a couple of doors up from Carl Chinn’s Nan”. They finally settled in Acocks Green.
Leslie worked at New Street Station as a Signalman but on the outbreak of War in 1939 he joined up as a Grenadier Guardsman and attained the rank of Sergeant. Leslie and some of his company were taken prisoner at Neinmagen Bridge. They escaped and were on the run for two days before they were recaptured and sent to a Prisoner of War camp in Germany.
After the war and when he was released Leslie spent some time in the Far East. He was great mates with Alfie Dolphin & Bob Bolter both ex Royal Navy. Sergeant Leslie Moorcroft in The Middle East
After he was finally demobbed his sister Alice got him a position at Marks & Spencer’s in the City Centre and through hard work he made it to be the Manager.
Leslie sadly passed away in 1991 after suffering a massive Heart Attack, he was a Husband and a Father, he is sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
