George was born on the 16th Oct 1885 to George & Emma Troughton from Hanbury in Worcestershire, he was one of seven children.
George married Elizabeth Ford from Tipton, at St James Church in Edgbaston on 24th July 1910.
He was absent from his daughter Doris’s birth; he was serving in the 5th Worcester’s in Dublin, Ireland during the 1916 uprising of British rule at the time. They first settled down to married life in Woodcock Street. Eventually moving to 4/ 5 Devon Street, Duddeston in the early 1900’s.
They had four children, May, Harold, Doris & Reginald. Sadly Reginald died aged four in 1925 after falling and hitting his head on concrete. He developed epilepsy, which was complicated by scarlet fever.
George was a Puddler by trade, this was a very strenuous job stirring molten Iron then lifting it out of the furnace at high temperatures to fill moulds, George only lived to be 61 years old.
Elizabeth worked much of her life as a cook at such places as the Camell & Metro until she had a fall; a year later she was diagnosed with bowel cancer and died on January 16th 1955 at home & is buried at Witton cemetery.
